Naci\u00f3 en Italia en 1940 y lleg\u00f3 a Chile a los ocho a\u00f1os de edad junto con su familia, entre ellos su primo y pariente m\u00e1s cercano Sergio Meli Grosso. Se cas\u00f3 en dos ocasiones: en Chile, con la periodista Mar\u00eda In\u00e9s S\u00e1ez, con quien tuvo dos hijas, y en Espa\u00f1a en 1995 con la ex Miss Euskadi, Pilar Orive,2\u200b con quien tuvo un hijo, Lazlo. Pasaba el verano boreal en Espa\u00f1a y el verano austral en Chile. Comenz\u00f3 su carrera art\u00edstica en los a\u00f1os 1970. Era tanto su carisma que Mario Kreutzberger (Don Francisco) no dud\u00f3 en convertirlo en artista \u00abobligado\u00bb del programa S\u00e1bados gigantes, que entonces era el programa familiar m\u00e1s exitoso de la televisi\u00f3n chilena, junto con el espacio televisivo de Enrique Maluenda, S\u00e1bados en el 9. A sus fanes les encantaba mucho su timbre de voz y tambi\u00e9n el estilo de sus canciones, alegres y simples.<\/p>\r\n

En el verano de 1975 decidi\u00f3 concursar en el XVI Festival Internacional de la Canci\u00f3n de Vi\u00f1a del Mar, donde gan\u00f3 la “Gaviota de Plata” al mejor int\u00e9rprete con la canci\u00f3n \u00abEs de noche ya\u00bb, de los autores Reinaldo Tom\u00e1s Mart\u00ednez y Luis Miguel Silva. Para continuar con su carrera art\u00edstica, en la d\u00e9cada de 1980 se traslad\u00f3 a Espa\u00f1a, donde tuvo una brillante carrera art\u00edstica, logrando ser reconocido como cantante de la l\u00ednea del franc\u00e9s Georgie Dann y del argentino Luis Aguil\u00e9.<\/p>\r\n

A principios de la d\u00e9cada de 2000, regres\u00f3 a Chile, donde se dedic\u00f3 a los negocios con una l\u00ednea de cremas capilares, champ\u00fas y perfumes. Retom\u00f3 su carrera musical y se convirti\u00f3 en \u00edcono del movimiento kitsch. En 2006 tuvo una fuerte reca\u00edda de su salud, pues se le detect\u00f3, tras una semana de fuertes dolores de cabeza, un tumor cerebral maligno, que le oblig\u00f3 a ser hospitalizado en una cl\u00ednica el 17 de abril del mismo a\u00f1o. A las dos de la ma\u00f1ana (hora local) del 3 de julio de 2007, falleci\u00f3 a los 66 a\u00f1os, v\u00edctima de un tumor cerebral, en Santiago de Chile, donde sus restos fueron incinerados.<\/p>\r\n

He was born in Italy in 1940 and arrived in Chile at the age of eight along with his family, including his cousin and closest relative Sergio Meli Grosso. He married twice: in Chile, with the journalist Mar\u00eda In\u00e9s S\u00e1ez, with whom he had two daughters, and in Spain in 1995 with the former Miss Euskadi, Pilar Orive, with whom he had a son, Lazlo. He spent the boreal summer in Spain and the austral summer in Chile. He began his artistic career in the 1970s. His charisma was so great that Mario Kreutzberger (Don Francisco) did not hesitate to make him a “compulsory” artist on the program Saturdays Giants, which was then the most successful family program on Chilean television, along with the Enrique Maluenda’s television space, Saturdays at 9. His fans loved his voice tone and also the style of his songs, happy and simple.<\/p>\r\n

In the summer of 1975 he decided to compete in the XVI International Song Festival of Vi\u00f1a del Mar, where he won the “Gaviota de Plata” for best performer with the song “Es de noche ya”, by the authors Reinaldo Tom\u00e1s Mart\u00ednez and Luis Miguel. Silva. In the early 2000s, he returned to Chile, where he went into business with a line of hair creams, shampoos, and perfumes. He resumed his musical career and became an icon of the kitsch movement. In 2006 he had a strong relapse in his health, as a malignant brain tumor was detected after a week of severe headaches, which forced him to be hospitalized in a Clinic on April 17 of the same year. At two in the morning (local time) on July 3, 2007, he died at the age of 66, a victim of a brain tumor, in Santiago de Chile, where his remains were cremated.<\/p>\r\n
