Desde muy joven, Dom\u00e9nico quer\u00eda ser actor. En 1951, despu\u00e9s de terminar el servicio militar y gracias a una beca, accedi\u00f3 al Centro Experimental de Cinematograf\u00eda de Roma, apareciendo m\u00e1s tarde en unas cuantas pel\u00edculas. Despu\u00e9s de protagonizar Il mantello rosso (La capa roja), inici\u00f3 su carrera de cantante. Se casa con Franca Gandolfi y tienen 3 hijos: Marco (1958), Marcello y Massimo Modugno (1966), este \u00faltimo tambi\u00e9n se dedica a la m\u00fasica. Dom\u00e9nico tiene un hijo de una relaci\u00f3n extra conyugal llamado Fabio Camilli (1962).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

En los a\u00f1os cincuenta se hizo muy popular en los Estados Unidos. Se convirti\u00f3 en uno de los protagonistas de la m\u00fasica mel\u00f3dica internacional cuando, con \u00abNel blu dipinto di blu\u00bb (m\u00e1s conocida como \u00abVolare\u00bb), triunf\u00f3 en el Festival de San Remo de 1958 junto a Johnny Dorelli. Con esta misma canci\u00f3n, particip\u00f3 tambi\u00e9n el Festival de la Canci\u00f3n de Eurovisi\u00f3n de ese mismo a\u00f1o, quedando en tercera posici\u00f3n (de diez). La canci\u00f3n de Modugno \u00abVolare\u00bb (llamada en realidad \u00abNel blu dipinto di blu\u00bb, En el [cielo] azul pintado de azul) fue un \u00e9xito comercial a nivel internacional, y con el paso del tiempo se convirti\u00f3 en una de las m\u00e1s representativas de la historia musical italiana.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Nel blu dipinto di blu alcanz\u00f3 el n\u00famero uno en el Hot 100 de la revista estadounidense Billboard, y la misma publicaci\u00f3n lo reconocer\u00eda despu\u00e9s como el mejor sencillo de 1958. Gracias a \u00abVolare\u00bb, Modugno se convirti\u00f3 en el primer ganador del Premio Grammy por grabaci\u00f3n del a\u00f1o y canci\u00f3n del a\u00f1o en 1959.1\u200b Fue un \u00e9xito tan extraordinario que L’Espresso, un peri\u00f3dico italiano, titul\u00f3 su primera plana: \u00abModugno ha conquistato l’America\u00bb, y para fin de aquel a\u00f1o las ventas del mismo aumentaron, batiendo todos los r\u00e9cords para un disco italiano hasta aquel momento: hasta 0,8 millones de copias en Italia y otros 22 millones en todo el mundo.<\/p>\r\n

From a very young age, Domenico wanted to be an actor. In 1951, after completing his military service and thanks to a scholarship, he entered the Experimental Center for Cinematography in Rome, later appearing in a few films. After starring in Il mantello rosso (The Red Cloak), he began his singing career. He married Franca Gandolfi and they have 3 children: Marco (1958), Marcello and Massimo Modugno (1966), the latter also dedicated to music. Domenico has a son from an extra-marital relationship named Fabio Camilli (1962).<\/p>\r\n

In the fifties it became very popular in the United States. He became one of the protagonists of international melodic music when, with “Nel blu dipinto di blu” (better known as “Volare”), he triumphed at the 1958 Sanremo Festival alongside Johnny Dorelli. With this same song, he also participated in the Eurovision Song Contest that same year, finishing third (out of ten). Modugno’s song “Volare” (actually called “Nel blu dipinto di blu”, In the blue painted blue) was an international commercial success, and over time it became one of the most representative of Italian musical history.<\/p>\r\n

Nel blu dipinto di blu reached number one on the Hot 100 of the American magazine Billboard, and the same publication would later recognize it as the best single of 1958. Thanks to “Volare”, Modugno became the first winner of the Grammy Award for recording of the year and song of the year in 1959.1 It was such an extraordinary success that L’Espresso, an Italian newspaper, headlined its front page: “Modugno ha conquered l’America”, and by the end of that year its sales increased, breaking all the records for an Italian album up to that moment: up to 0.8 million copies in Italy and another 22 million worldwide.<\/p>\r\n
